REVIEW: THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE LINE

Hello there pretty, welcome to my blog! Today I will share with you what I think of The Body Shop Tea Tree Line.

For the record, I have combination to oily skin type, and acne-prone. As you can imagine, it is a total greasy mess. I have been using The Body Shop Tea Tree products for approximately 3 years, since I started combating serious acne due to stress in University. Here are my feed back and recommendations.

Disclaimer: This blog is merely where I share my opinions about product that I have tried. I cannot guarantee what works for me will work for you. So please PATCH TEST all the products if you know you have sensitive skin, or stay away from those that has alcohol and strong fragrance if you cannot stand those.

The Body Shop’s Claim

The Body Shop Tea Tree Line

I have used quite a number of products from this line, including the Facial Wash, the Scrub, the Toner, The Skin clear Lotion, Night Lotion, Wash-off Mask, and the famous Tea Tree Oil.

Skin Clearing Facial Wash

Skin Clearing Facial Wash

Packaging:

The whole line comes in this beautiful shade of green, which is very aesthetically pleasing. The Facial Wash is in a sturdy plastic bottle. You do not need to squeeze very hard for product to come out. I bought a huge bottle of 250ml and I took forever to finish this. I’m on my second bottle, and this easily last me a year.

Texture:

The cleanser has a gel runny texture and very gentle on the skin

Smell:

The whole line carry this strong tea tree smell. I absolutely love it. It gives me a very calming sensation to it.

Verdict:

This product is my Holy Grail. The cleanser is the gentlest I have ever try. It cleanses my face effectively as a second cleansing step, yet not drying at all and does not leave your skin feel stripped (I usually start with an oil-based cleanser first). This works very well as removing the rest of my makeup and any residue that the oil-based cleanser miss out. It does have a cooling sensation which I enjoyed. Even on open wound like acne, it still does not sting so badly. However, do be careful if you have very sensitive skin.

Rating: 5/5

  1. This item should be taken off the market (failed to do what it is expected to or cause irritation)
  2. This item is not doing its job
  3. Meh! Not good or bad
  4. Pretty good! Will consider repurchase unless I found something better
  5. I love this and cannot live without it

Repurchase?

Definitely yes. However, I’m planning to test out a few Korean products, just to find a cheaper alternative. Will update on that. But for now, this cleanser is going to last me a long while more.

Squeaky-Clean Scrub

Processed with VSCO

Squeaky-Clean Scrub

I will not lie. I was very skeptical of this product when I read Squeaky Clean. It is the last thing I want to do to my skin, to strip off all the moisture. However, despite its name, the product is pretty gentle on my skin.

Packaging:

Same as the facial wash, the packaging is green, and in a squeeze tube, which makes things pretty convenient. I have nothing to complain

Texture:

The cleanser has a gel runny texture and micro-beads.

Texture of the Scrub

Smell:

Same as the rest of the line. Strong yet calming tea tree smell.

Verdict:

This product is great and pretty gentle on my skin. After using your skin feel smooth and thoroughly cleansed.

Rating: 4/5

  1. This item should be taken off the market (failed to do what it is expected to or cause irritation)
  2. This item is not doing its job
  3. Meh! Not good or bad
  4. Pretty good! Will consider repurchase unless I found something better
  5. I love this and cannot live without it

Repurchase?

Though it is pretty decent exfoliator, I am currently exploring others, like the Skinfood Sugar Scrub or some chemical exfoliators. Will update in the future. But since I am finding other alternatives, I probably will not repurchase this for a long while more.

Skin Clearing Toner

Processed with VSCO

Toner

I bought a sample of this during the Body Shop warehouse sale. The product has 2 layers and you supposed to shake this before use. I use a cotton pad to swipe this all over my face.

Verdict:

This product does sting, especially on open wound. So be very careful. My skin has learned to adapt to this. It finishes to a matte look and help to keep your sebum as bay. Does help picking up some of the residues that your cleanser may have missed out. It might leave your skin a little bit dry, so I do not recommend this for dry skin people.

Rating: 3/5

  1. This item should be taken off the market (failed to do what it is expected to or cause irritation)
  2. This item is not doing its job
  3. Meh! Not good or bad
  4. Pretty good! Will consider repurchase unless I found something better
  5. I love this and cannot live without it

Repurchase?

A good toner. But I will not repurchase as it is not suitable in the long run for my more sensitive skin. I tried the SON&PARK Beauty Water and love that. I am also trying out Innisfree Bjia Trouble Toner, so I will update the review on those soon.

Skin Clearing Lotion

I also bought a small sample of this, sorry to forget to take photo though 😦

Verdict:

This product is a runny gel like texture, finish matte on the skin and does help calming my troubled area. I quite like it since it is very light weight, but sometimes it feels like it is not moisturizing enough for my dry area (aka my cheeks)

Rating: 3/5

  1. This item should be taken off the market (failed to do what it is expected to or cause irritation)
  2. This item is not doing its job
  3. Meh! Not good or bad
  4. Pretty good! Will consider repurchase unless I found something better
  5. I love this and cannot live without it

Repurchase?

Not really. I found other products that I preferred. But a pretty decent moisturizer for oily and acne prone skin.

Blemish Fade Night Lotion

Processed with VSCO

Blemish Fade Night Lotion

Packaging:

This come in a pump, which is pretty nice. My only complain is towards the end, it is quite hard to squeeze all the product out

Texture:

The cleanser has a gel texture and absorb on skin pretty quickly. It does look a bit dense but when you pat it in your face it absorb pretty fast. I normally use from 2-3 pumps to cover the entire face.

Verdict:

This product is an empty. That said something. I discovered this via my brother, who never used any product his entire life, until he needs to fight serious hormonal breakouts. This cleared skin in like a month, and I must say his skin looks pretty good after that. So I need to try it for myself. It does help calm my acne and face my scars, however, the results was  not that dramatic compared to my brother. It is a good night moisturizer though. I guess since my acne are mainly hormonal due to that time of the month, there is nothing I found that does actually help controlling them 100%, yet.

  2. This item is not doing its job
  3. Meh! Not good or bad
  4. Pretty good! Will consider repurchase unless I found something better
  5. I love this and cannot live without it

Repurchase?

Maybe. I’m currently using another product from Etude House AC Clinic Line. Review for that will come soon.

Wash-off Mask

maks

Again, I’m very sorry I did not take a better photo of this mask. It is the first item from the top.

Packaging:

This is packaged in a tub, with no given spatula. This makes it very unhygienic to use. I use this after my 2nd cleanser (the tea tree facial wash), and leave it on for about 20-30 minutes. When the cooling sensation dies out, time to wash it off.

Texture:

The mask has this really funny texture. It is like a clay mask texture but more runny and oily. This is very spreadable though. After you wash off, there is a thin layer of oil to your face.

Verdict:

This product is a pretty good mask. Do very well in calming my troubled area. Red hot acne will be less bumpy and angry after washing this off.

Rating: 4/5

  1. This item should be taken off the market (failed to do what it is expected to or cause irritation)
  2. This item is not doing its job
  3. Meh! Not good or bad
  4. Pretty good! Will consider repurchase unless I found something better
  5. I love this and cannot live without it

Repurchase?

Maybe not. I tried out Lush Mask of Magnaminty, and that was the best clay mask I ever tried. This fall shorts in term of finishing, as the Lush Mask leaves my skin super soft and amazingly clean to touch.

Tea Tree Oil

This item is probably the most well-known, of the whole Tea Tree line. This has won numerous award and I was very excited to try this out.

Packaging:

This is packaged in either a 10ml or 20ml glass bottle. It is so pricey given the sizing (10ml costs $19.90, while the 20ml costs $34.50). The bottle has a nozzle on top, which helps in controlling the product. However I always end up taking too much and want to kill myself for wasting one or two of this expensive oil when the drop landed on my table instead.

Texture:

It is oily but not that oily, absorb to skin in an instant, with a cooling sensation and strong smell.

Verdict:

This product is another of my Holy Grail. Tea tree oil directly on my skin has worked wonder. It calms acne overnight, and reduce the size of the acne to half in the next morning. I love this so much and cannot leave without it. No wonder this won so many awards. This can sting a little bit on acne, but I feel like that means it is working its magic. Again, sensitive skin people, do patch test first.

Rating: 5/5

  2. This item is not doing its job

  4. Pretty good! Will consider repurchase unless I found something better
  5. I love this and cannot live without it

Repurchase?

100% Yes. I can’t live without this. I tried, since this is quite pricey. I bought a few other tea tree oil from other brands to tryout, but girls, nothing compare to this amazing product. If there is one thing from this line that you need to buy, it is this Tea Tree Oil.

Ok that was a very long post. I hope you find this helpful, if you are finding means to combat acne like me. More review on other products, especially Korean ones, coming real soon so stay tuned.

Disclaimer: I bought all of these items by myself, unless stated otherwise, and I am not paid in any way to give my feedback. This is my honest opinions for the products.

This has been so useful; I also have combination to oily skin and a lot of the blogs I’ve seen are by those with dry skin. Also, I’ve been really skeptical about whether or not tea tree products work so thank you so much for the post. It’s very well written.

I had the same issue with the tea tree toner! I feel like it really made a difference in getting the extra junk out of my skin but it stung and irritated me. At the beginning I broke out within a day of using it but I kept at it because my sister said it did wonders for her skin. I’m kinda used to it now. Thank you for the review! I’m going to give the tea tree oil another chance 🙂

Hi there, thank you for commenting. The tea tree oil is my favourite product from the whole line, but if you have sensitive skin, I suggest mixing the oil with your current night cream/moisturiser as you slowly introduce this to your regimen. Do let me know if this work for you 😉
